Domain names are one of the three (or four) POP types that the Brandle Presence Manager supports. The other two are web sites/pages and social media. Examples of each are:
- Domain: company.com
- Web site: http://www.company.com
- Web page: http://www.company.com/brand-x
- Social media: http://twitter.com/company
While websites, web pages and social media are actual places on the web, domain names are a little different. There is not property on the web which can be visited for a domain, rather it has a registration with a domain registrar like Network Solutions or GoDaddy.com. That domain registration can usually be viewed by using a Whois service to look up the registration info:
- Registrant (i.e. the "owner")
- Administrative Contact
- Technical Contact
While domains also have a "Billing Contact" that is generally not published through the Whois database of the registrar.
Part of the monitoring service of the Brandle Presence Manager is a feature to stay abreast of your domain registration information across registrars. You can use the refresh feature to have the system reacquire the registration data on your domains. Depending on the package of services purchased, this service may only be available on demand or it may be configured to happen periodically.
