An identity is one of the basic objects in the Brandle Presence Manager. In simplest terms, it is a string of characters, usually alphanumeric but sometimes containing punctuation, used to refer to a "brand" on the web. "Cisco", "Cisco Systems", "Cisco Systems, Inc." are all different identities used to refer to the same thing, the company Cisco.
Identities are often found in domain names, URLs, handles, user names, full names, etc. They are generally used to distinguish (or help distinguish) one site, page, user from another in the same name space.
The first identities that are pulled into Brandle are from your domain registration. If you care about an identity (brand name, company name, campaign, tagline) it is most likely that you have protected it by registering a domain name. Bringing in your domains is a key way that Brandle helps you protect your Intellectual Property (IP).
